What a week! It’s amazing how exhausting it can be to have a booth, yet it’s extremely rewarding. Thank You to everyone who stopped by and said hello. The best part about Comic con is meeting so many amazing artists and catching up with old friends.
Although I was in my booth most of the time, I did manage to sneak out here and there to purchase a few books I just had to have. After recoverying from the weekend, I’m already planning for next year!
It’s been a while since my last post, but I’ve got some cool stuff coming up. My film is animated and I’m just putting the final touches on the lighting and I’ll start rendering soon. I’ve also realized that Comic-con is right around the corner! I’ll be sharing a booth with some friends who will also be selling their artwork and books. I’m planning on bringing EYECANDY along with original art and prints. I can’t wait! One of my favorite times of the year, where I can geek out at all the great art and pop culture goodies. We’ll be at booth 5363. See you there!
As an animator I’m always trying to get away from the regular “Vanilla Walk” when animating a specific character. Sometimes you come up with something perfect for your character, other times it comes off as a little cliche. Here are a couple kids who came up with some fun walks. I don’t think you have to be an animator to love these.

After hearing the sad news about animator Ollie Johnston a few weeks ago, I was reminded of another one of Disney’s Nine Old Men that I was fortunate enough to meet, Marc Davis.
Marc Davis was an animator, artist and Imagineer, who loved creating characters for animation or any other medium. His work was instrumental in creating Disneyland, and added a whimsical humor to the park that few realize is due to him.
Back in 1999, as I was visiting Disneyland with my wife, we noticed a small sign announcing that, for a short period of time, Mr. Davis would be signing a limited edition lithograph of his famous stretching canvas paintings from Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion . We quickly made note of the time and place, and made sure to arrive a little early.
After waiting in line for a bit, I was able to speak with him briefly as he carefully signed my lithograph. He was very gracious and patient with everyone, even though he seemed a little tired. I didn’t want to take up too much of his time. Just enough to thank him for his amazing work which helped inspire me to become an animator. About a few months after that day, he passed away. I felt very fortunate to be able to meet and let him know that his work was appreciated.
I have officially graduated from AnimationMentor! It’s a great feeling, and I can’t wait for the graduation in Berkeley so I can meet some of my classmates in person. Since my film is not completed, I took an extension at AM so I can finish it. So there’s still lots to do. I will have a “making of” thread when I’ve completed the animation portion.
As for updates, the animation page has new clips, and there are also a few new pieces on the artwork page.
Ok, so I’ve got some of my artwork up, and added a few links. I’ve been working frantically on my short film at AnimationMentor, and that has pretty much taken up most of my time. One of the main reasons I started this site was to show some of the animation I’ve been working on along with my short film. Just a few more weeks and I should be finished with the animation. Wish me luck.
